Belinda's Corporate Slip is Showing

I have respect for Belinda Stronach, not because she crossed over to the Liberal caucus but because she was a small 'c' conservative with a social conscience. But anything positive she has to bring to politics is negated by shaking Paul Martin's hand, the man who 64% of Canadians don't trust.

Tell me that the influence of the C.A.W, er um, I mean the NDP, didn't have anything to do with it. How telling is the corporate influence by the position she was offered by the Liberals? Minister of Human Resources Development Canada.

Even if she has good intentions, I believe her new party home will let her down by The Players within it. Why should I believe that anything good will come of her being HRDC Minister or part of the caucus of the Liberal Party?

I wonder when the Conservatives in the West will understand Ontarians? No one in Ontario likes control freaks in politics. We Ontarians have had enough of Mike Harris and we have visions of his resurrection in another name. Many Ontarians have the proverbial nightmare of a wolf in sheep's clothing as it were.

And then I wonder when Ontarians will GET IT. That the Liberal party has caused us a lot of suffering by their budget cuts because money was being funneled elsewhere by mismanagement and corruption. How do social programs survive if they are managed poorly or the money for them is stolen?

Then there is ignoring the concerns of women. Not only that, calling Belinda a whore in blog comments, not by men, but by women is just a transference of misogyny the Conservatives should not associate themselves with. A person is not 'strong' if they have to resort to disgusting stereotypical references to a woman's sexuality when those women makes choices that aren't popular within their group. It's called emotional bullying, group think and defies decorum, for real.

If the Conservatives GET IT they will address the issues important to women head on, especially the lack thereof of female representation in their party. When will the Conservatives stop being influenced by the American 'right' and acknowledge that our 'right' is different? They should wish Belinda well but oppose her with the things the Liberals have ignored for 10 years by pointing out the problems within HRDC with reasons and facts not just claims.

The Conservatives need to go on the offensive, not the defensive. Ignore negativity, respond with positivity. Brush up on Psychology 101. Tell Canadians what is good about the Conservatives. They need to know. We want to know.

If I have time I'll go digging through blogs re: comments around Kilgour (troops for votes) and Pat O'Brien (ssm, almost left the liberals. Layton didn't cross the floor but was also trashed for his "New Deal Budget" and I believe similar words were used.

Re: Conservatives in the west "getting it" re Ontario & control freaks. Who exactly do you think has been controlling the west for the past 100 years? We get it; the question is do we care anymore?

The sexist charage against Stronach's critics are a little rich. Remove the paint and Prada if you don't want your gender to play any role in how people perceive you.

Anon. thanks for your comment.

I don't agree with you on the paint and Prada. Why then, shouldn't she just wear a veil? Her personal style hasn't, and should not have have anything to do with a woman being in politics.

What we are seeing is a purge of outdated attitudes of women in politics, mostly by men in politics and why women are so reluctant to get into it.

What I don't agree with is the Liberal Woman's Caucaus coming to her rescue on other stuff other than qualified discriminatory comments. They are and have been so transparently benign on women's issues its nauseating.

As for calling someone a whore in whatever context: My stance is solid. It should NEVER be used. The Conservative MLA apoligized for this and so he should. Since what Belinda, Martin and Peterson did was very serious, IMO, this should be brought up as a potential criminal issue.

Andrew Coyne posted a good article about it on his blog, which I agree with whole heartedly. And I would read my post called "The Many Faces of Fraud", in which there is an explanation of money laundering from the FBI: ie if a person suddenly has a big expensive house and expensive cars but their income doesn't jive, there is something wrong. *lights flash*

Belinda, has no political experience but she was vying for the Conservative Party leadership. Besides being a president of a large corporation, which is a huge job and she should be given credit for it, she was posted as Human Resources Development Minister. A political unknown getting a very large portfolio. *lights flashing*

I've posted many clauses from the Criminal Code of Canada on AC's website regarding INFLUENCING OR NEGOTIATING APPOINTMENTS OR DEALING IN OFFICES.

It's this stuff that should be paid attention to and not her clothes. In this case, the "emperor has none"

Candace, the perception of the Conservatives is that of "control freaks". The next sentence clarifies it. In order to understand this, one has to know what Mike Harris did in Ontario since 1995 until the Liberals won with 90% of the vote.

My posts on Ipperwash is a good example, as well as my post on "The Lowdown of My Name: Habamus Rodentum"

But you make a good point about the West not having a fair deal. And your right. Just take a good look at the allocation of seats in the 1867 Constitution. It has to be changed. Everything has to be changed and purged and quite frankly, I want the Conservatives and the Bloc to help to make those changes.
